Multiple Etiology Dementia: Implementation research for dementia care (Milestone 13.L)
In Progress
Timeline Start - End
2020 - 2027Research Implementation Area
Research on Care and Caregiver SupportAD-Related Dementias Focus
Implement and evaluate outcomes for effective dementia care programs that support persons living with dementia and their caregivers, including those of socially, ethnically, and racially diverse populations.
Success Criteria
- Hold a workshop and write a report on dementia care programs that effectively support persons with dementia and their caregivers including those of socially, ethnically, and racially diverse populations. This workshop will also address barriers to national implementation.
- Establish an AD/ADRD health equity national consortium tasked with applied research to determine how to implement proven care programs, including by identifying barriers and facilitators to widespread diffusion and sustainability of interventions with demonstrated benefit.
Summary of Key Accomplishments
NIA commissioned the National Academies report, "Meeting the Challenge of Caring for Persons Living with Dementia and Their Care Partners and Caregivers: A Way Forward." This report assesses the body of evidence on care interventions for persons living with dementia and caregivers, informs decision making about which interventions should be broadly disseminated and implemented, and guides future actions and research.
The key accomplishments summary is current as of July 2022.
