Milestone 14.N

AD Related Dementias – Specific

Integrate and refine recommendations from the Research, Clinical Practice, and Public Stakeholder Working Groups into standardized, acceptable and accurate nomenclature that works across the spectrum of stakeholders.

Success Criteria

  • Integrate dementia nomenclature recommendations from the three working groups to develop an approach to cognitive impairment and dementia nomenclature that uses unambiguous terms that are identical when possible, but at least interoperable with mutually agreed upon meaning, across research, clinical practice, and public stakeholders.
  • Increase everyone’s, including the general public’s, understanding of cognitive impairment including dementia diagnoses by using plain and clear language when discussing dementia, without sacrificing accuracy of terminology.

Summary of Key Accomplishments

The Dementia Nomenclature Initiative (DeNomI) DeNomI has formed research, clinical and public stakeholder working groups and will report out to the NAPA Council. The DeNomI initiative has a goal of increasing everyone’s, including the general public’s, understanding of cognitive impairment including dementia diagnoses by using plain and clear language that advances health equity when discussing dementia, without sacrificing accuracy of terminology.
