Milestone 13.L

AD Related Dementias – Specific

Bridge the science-practice gap by conducting implementation research with the goal of better and more widespread implementation of proven dementia care programs that effectively support persons with dementia and their caregivers.

Success Criteria

  • Hold a workshop and write a white paper on proven dementia care programs that effectively support persons with dementia and their caregivers, as well as barriers to national implementation of these programs.
  • Establish a national consortium tasked with applied research to determine how to implement, widely across the country in everyday care settings, proven care programs that effectively support persons with dementia and their caregivers, including in diverse populations and populations with health disparities.

Summary of Key Accomplishments

NIA commissioned the National Academies report, "Meeting the Challenge of Caring for Persons Living with Dementia and Their Care Partners and Caregivers: A Way Forward." This report assesses the body of evidence on care interventions for persons living with dementia and caregivers, informs decision making about which interventions should be broadly disseminated and implemented, and guides future actions and research.

This information is current as of July 2022.
