Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the Fogarty International Institute (FIC), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the Office of Dietary Supplements, Office of the Director (ODS), the National Eye Institute (NEI), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to conduct basic biomedical research relevant to global health. This program is intended to promote productive development of foreign investigators from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), trained in the U.S. or in their home countries through an eligible NIH funded research or research training grant/award. It is expected that this program will stimulate research on a wide variety of high priority health-related issues in those countries, and advance NIH efforts to address important global health issues. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project (R01) grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The total amount to be awarded is $325,000 and the anticipated number of awards is six. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award may also vary. The total amount to be awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality and costs of the applications received.
