Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Office of Special Population’s approach to health disparities in aging research?
NIA OSP seeks to promote the consideration of health disparities by encouraging aging research that investigates differences in life expectancy among American populations and research that identifies factors that lead to variances in health status among Americans age 65 and older.
The NIA Office of Special Populations will increase its promotion of disparities research directly, working specifically across NIH and with its National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. We also hope to track NIA’s progress for supporting research on factors that diminish lifespan and health among specific groups of Americans.
