Invitational Meeting on Access to Death Records to Support Health Research

The Division of Behavioral and Social Research at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) convened an invitational meeting at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to: (1) better understand how the health research community uses death records and how the loss of access to the full Death Master File (DMF) affects health research; (2) better understand the issue from the perspective of the states as represented by the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS); and (3) discuss promising ideas that could facilitate timely, comprehensive, cost-beneficial, and user-friendly means of research access to death records that are consistent with state interests and compliant with state and federal laws.
