Childhood Adversity, Adult Health, and Preventive Interventions: The Potential Role of New Findings on Neuroplasticity
On April 19-20, 2017, the Interdisciplinary Research Network on Early Adversity & Later Life Reversibility, supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the UK Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), convened an international workshop to explore how current knowledge of behavioral and neural plasticity can be leveraged to design interventions to enable compensatory adaptation or recovery from the impacts of early life adversity on later life health. This meeting was particularly focused on metabolic syndrome and its components as potential targets for reversibility interventions, using it as an exemplar for how researchers might tackle such questions in other domains.
