Behavioral Economics and the Promotion of Health Among Aging Populations

The National Institute on Aging’s Division of Behavioral and Social Research commissioned the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine to convene a two-day workshop on June 4-5, 2018 to discuss behavioral economics research with the goal of extending such research to promote the health and well-being older and middle-aged adults. The goals of the workshop were (1) to share knowledge about successful applications of behavioral economics principles to intervention design; (2) to encourage investigations that will deepen understanding of the specific conditions, people, and contexts for which such applications are more and less effective; and (3) to identify the mechanisms underlying the intervention’s effects. A meeting summary (PDF, 122K) is available.
