Hands-on training to set the standard for Alzheimer’s drug discovery, May 8-12
Are you a student, postdoctoral fellow, research scientist, or junior faculty member interested in translational research that might lead to an intervention for Alzheimer’s disease? Are you passionate about using rigorous scientific methods for state-of-the-art testing of Alzheimer’s drug candidates? Then apply by May 5 for the 2023 Principles and Techniques for Improving Preclinical Translation in Alzheimer’s Disease workshop!
Funded by NIA and hosted by The Jackson Laboratory, the workshop focus is on teaching hands-on skills needed for rigorous design, execution, analysis, and reporting of preclinical drug screening and efficacy experiments. This unique training opportunity will be held May 8-12, both virtually and in person in Bar Harbor, Maine.
Learn new skills, grow your network
Building on NIA’s continued efforts to improve rigor and reproducibility in translational research, this immersive workshop will leverage the expertise and facilities of the Model Organism Development & Evaluation for Late-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (MODEL-AD) Precision Medicine consortium. The 2023 curriculum will cover multiple topics from the drug discovery road map, translational approaches to studying complex behaviors, precision medicine, diversity in modeling Alzheimer’s, and training in experimental design and methodology. Participants can also connect with NIA program staff, NIA-funded researchers, industry scientists, private funding organization representatives, and other leaders in Alzheimer’s research initiatives.
Now in its fifth year, the workshop attracts a diverse group of U.S.-based and international scientists at various stages of their careers in industry and academia. Post-workshop outcome surveys have shown that participants acquired new techniques and tools to implement in their own research and formed lasting collaborations with peers from different disciplines.
