How a Simple "Thank You" Could Improve Clinical Trials

This editorial in Nature discusses how thanking participants in clinical trials is a simple but effective strategy for making them feel like partners in research. In practice, many participants come away from trials without hearing from investigators or sponsors and without learning the results of the study in which they took part. The editorial argues for a more inclusive approach that is part of the movement toward closer involvement of patients and participants in how clinical trials are designed and conducted. It notes, "As the phrase ‘patient engagement’ sweeps through medical science, it is important to make sure that it’s backed by meaningful action."
