Community-Engaged Strategies to Increase Diversity of Participants in Health Education Research

Recommendations and guidelines to increase the participation of minorities in health-related research typically pertain to research in clinical or laboratory contexts. This article summarizes community-engaged outreach efforts that can be translated into usable strategies for health education research teams seeking to diversify the pool of research participants. The article provides an overview of the various components of a research endeavor that may influence minority participation in health-related research. It also includes an analysis of how health education specialists and the Society of Public Health Education could play a role in helping to enhance participation in health-related research.
