Assessing Equitable Inclusion of Underrepresented Older Adults in Alzheimer’s Disease, Related Cognitive Disorders, and Aging-Related Research
This scoping review assesses the equitable inclusion of diverse older populations in NIH-sponsored research. The authors found that inclusion of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and mild cognitive impairment from racial-ethnic minorities, rural populations, socioeconomically disadvantaged communities, groups with disabilities, and LGBTQ communities were poorly specified in most studies. The authors provide recommendations to improve data collection and reporting in the future.
