Microphysiological Systems to Advance Precision Medicine for AD/ADRD Treatment Virtual Workshop

The NIA will host a virtual workshop, titled, Microphysiological Systems to Advance Precision Medicine for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD-Related Dementias (ADRD) Treatment and Prevention on July 19th and 20th. The virtual workshop will bring together representatives from academia, biopharmaceutical companies, NIH and FDA to discuss advances and challenges in development and use of microphysiological systems--including organoids, organ-on-chips, and iPSC platforms--as translational tools for precision medicine research and drug development for AD/ADRD.

The workshop will focus on topics around:

  • Use of 2D and 3D in vitro systems for modeling disease complexity, target validation and drug screening
  • Use of microphysiological systems as tools for predictive drug development
  • Overview of the NCATS Tissue Chip Program
  • Discuss the regulatory perspective on the use of microphysiological systems for therapeutic development
