Join NIA's Office of Strategic Extramural Programs as NIA Senior Advisor on Biomedical Innovation and Product Assessment & Director of the Office of Strategic Extramural Programs

NIA is seeking a Senior Advisor on Biomedical Innovation and Product Assessment. The Senior Analyst will develop strategies for targeted biomedical product assessment investments focused on generating synergies with ongoing grant programs and/or opening key lines of scientific/technical progress within the mission of NIA. Candidates should have a strong focus on the biomedical product assessment needs of the small business programs as they pertain to application consideration, award selection, and entrepreneurial support programs. Biomedical product assessment principles will be central to efforts to support the fostering of diverse entrepreneurs.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Development of funding programs designed to facilitate advancement of products towards a market prioritizing the needs of older adults, including shaping NIA’s participation and the implementation of the NIH Commercialization Readiness Pilot Program. 
  • Development of resources and educational content that address the challenges innovators face as they attempt to advance projects towards commercialization. 
  • Development of online workshops on commercialization-related topic areas which are then archived on the NIA website.
  • Development of entrepreneurial accelerator content that is designed to help new innovators understand and be positioned to advance their innovations towards commercialization. 
  • Coordination and collaboration within and between NIA, NIH, HHS, and other federal agencies with mission relevance to NIA. 
  • Operations management, oversight and coordination of NIA’s career development, training, and small business management.
  • Leadership and supervision of staff within OSEP.

Who should apply?

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • At least one year of experience related to the position, including achievements in one or more of the following areas:
    • Dealing with complex, precedent-setting evaluation, scientific policies and/or product development issues (e.g., those associated with novel biomedical products, novel approaches to biomedical product manufacturing, or use of novel evaluation methods)
    • Expertise in a scientific or technical discipline critical to design, development, manufacturing, clinical performance assessment, or technical aspects of effective oversight of biomedical products
    • Leadership role in planning and conducting public meetings to seek public input and communicate regulatory scientific policies
    • Speak at or chair major national or international meetings and symposia or
    • Other criteria demonstrating sufficient rigor or accomplishment in a relevant or closely related activity.
  • Either a doctoral-level degree in biomedicine or a biological related field, or a master's level or higher degree in engineering, bioinformatics, or an emerging or related scientific field.

If you are a current Federal Title 5 employee, you must have one year of equivalent experience at the GS-14 level or above.
