Start: May 20, 2021
End: February 2022
Enrollment: 45

What Is This Study About?

This study will test a caregiver skills training program to improve the quality of life of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) dementia caregivers. The LGBT Savvy program uses the Savvy Caregiver program as a foundation with themes of physical, interpersonal, financial, social, and environmental stressors specific to LGBT caregivers. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the LGBT Savvy Group program or the Savvy Caregiver program. Each participant will attend weekly, two-hour caregiver classes for six weeks, and one 90-minute focus group to discuss their experiences with the program. Researchers will use blood tests to measure stress levels and questionnaires to measure program effectiveness.
