This study plans to establish a large bank of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, imaging, and clinical data to be used in Alzheimer's disease research.

  • Age-related mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease, consistent with National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association diagnostic criteria
  • Down syndrome, with cognitive ability sufficient to follow directions
  • Healthy volunteers without Alzheimer's or Down syndrome living in the community
  • Non-pregnant parents of children with Down syndrome
  • Ability to complete baseline assessments
  • Study partner to complete interviews and surveys annually

  • Medical, neurological, or psychiatric illness or condition that would confound study results, such as Korsakoff encephalopathy, active substance abuse, hepatitis C, opportunistic brain infection, brain tumor, active neoplastic disease, multiple sclerosis
  • History of clinically significant stroke
  • Current evidence or history in the past 2 years of focal brain lesion, head injury with loss of consciousness, or any major psychiatric disorder, including psychosis, major depression, bipolar disorder, alcohol or substance abuse
  • Blindness, deafness, or any other disability that may prevent full participation in the study

This study plans to establish a large bank of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, imaging, and clinical data to be used in Alzheimer's disease research, which may include studies on the causes of Alzheimer's, Down syndrome, and other dementias, as well as treatments for diseases of the nervous system.
