Novel Computerized Cognitive Stress Test

What Is This Study About?

This five-year observational study will examine the Cognitive Stress Test for identifying early-stage mild cognitive impairment. The study is recruiting Hispanic older adults who speak Spanish as their primary language, as well as non-Hispanic older adults who speak English to take the computerized test. All participants will receive a yearly evaluation, baseline blood test, and MRI scan. A subgroup of individuals will also undergo brain imaging to measure proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Do I Qualify To Participate in This Study?

Minimum Age: 60 Years

Maximum Age: N/A

Must have:

Participants with Early-Stage MCI

  • Meet the criteria for amnestic MCI
  • If taking donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, memantine or any potential memory-enhancing agent, on stable dose for at least two months

Cognitively Normal Participants

  • No evidence of a memory complaint, confirmed by an informant
  • Global Clinical Dementia Rating Scale of 0
  • No impairment in social and/or occupational function
  • No major neurocognitive disorder
  • Normal neuropsychological scores 

Must NOT have:

  • Significant sensory or motor deficit (e.g., visual or hearing impairment, paralysis)
  • Literacy lower than the sixth grade level 
  • Major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, substance use disorder or any other psychiatric condition 
  • Prohibited medications: antipsychotics, sedatives or other agents with significant anticholinergic properties
