Alzheimer's Caregiver Coping: Mental and Physical Health

What Is This Study About?

This study will compare two intervention strategies for reducing emotional and cardiovascular disease risk in Alzheimer's caregivers: Behavioral Activation therapy and Support and Information.

Do I Qualify To Participate in This Study?

Minimum Age: 55 Years

Maximum Age: N/A

Must have:

  • Providing in-home care to a spouse with dementia

Must NOT have:

  • Prohibited medications: warfarin (Coumarin), nitrates, niacin, non-selective beta-blockers, methyldopa (Aldomet), labetalol (Normozide)
  • Glucocorticoid use in the 2 weeks before enrollment
  • Diagnosis of a terminal illness with life expectancy of less than 1 year (caregiver and person with Alzheimer's)
  • Enrollment in another intervention study
  • Receiving psychotherapy to improve well-being or reduce stress
  • Blood pressure of more than 200/120 mm Hg
