High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation for Primary Progressive Aphasia

What Is This Study About?

This study will evaluate high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) for the treatment of the language deficits in people with logopenic primary progressive aphasia (PPA). In this type of frontotemporal disorder, people have trouble finding the right words during conversation but can understand words and sentences.

Do I Qualify To Participate in This Study?

Minimum Age: 45 Years

Maximum Age: N/A

Must have:

  • Diagnosed with language variant (logopenic) primary progressive aphasia
  • Fluent in English
  • Structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed within 2 years prior to enrollment

Must NOT have:

  • Severe cognitive, auditory, or visual impairments that would preclude cognitive testing
  • Major untreated or unstable psychiatric disease
  • Untreated or unstable chronic medical condition
  • Cardiac stimulator or pacemaker
  • Any metal implants in the skull or other contraindications to MRI
  • History of seizures
  • History of dyslexia or other developmental learning disabilities
