Ramesh VEMURI

Biography
Ramesh Vemuri, Ph.D. is chief of NIA’s Scientific Review Branch. With over 20 years of service with NIA, he was previously a Scientific Review Officer before assuming his current role. Following his doctoral work on hypoxia and anoxia in heart cells carried out at Hebrew University (Israel) and Erasmus University (Netherlands), he did his post-doctoral research at UCLA. Prior to joining NIA, Vemuri continued his research on cardiomyopathy and other inherited cardiovascular diseases at the Cardiology Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Vemuri is a member of several trans-NIH committees, including the NIH review policy committee, and serves on the VA advisory board. Vemuri is passionate about training new and diverse cadres of scientists, and he enjoys presenting to and recruiting junior investigators at national and international meetings.
