Joseph POTTACKAL

Biography
Dr. Joe Pottackal is a Health Specialist in the Neurobiology of Aging and Neurodegeneration Branch (NANB) within the Division of Neuroscience. In his role as a health specialist, Dr. Pottackal provides programmatic, analytical, and logistical support to program directors in NANB. Prior to joining NIA in September 2022, Dr. Pottackal conducted postdoctoral research at University of Maryland – College Park, where he studied synaptic connectivity and integration within the central circadian pacemaker of the mammalian brain. Dr. Pottackal received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Yale University, where his research focused on mechanisms that enable parallel processing at subcellular scales within single retinal neurons. Dr. Pottackal’s published work spans a wide range of topics, including synaptic physiology, sensory processing, neuroplasticity, and neurotoxicology.
