Dr. Alvin McKelvy joined the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in 2017 and serves as a Health Specialist supporting the Clinical Interventions and Diagnostics Branch in the Division of Neuroscience. He provides technical and administrative support for clinical trials and manages the Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB)-related activities for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-related dementia (ADRD) clinical trials. Prior to joining the NIA, Dr. McKelvy was a Regulatory Specialist at Technical Resources International, where he provided technical support and managed regulatory activities for clinical trials, including attending Scientific Review Committee meetings, and coordinating communication between clinical sites, NIH, and the FDA.
Dr. McKelvy received his B.S. in chemistry from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC and his Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of South Carolina. Upon graduation, he joined the lab of Dr. Srinivasa Raja as a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His scientific research focused on developing translational models to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying vaso-occlusive pain in sickle cell disease.
