Biography

Dr. Maryam Ghaleh is currently a Program Director for the Population Studies and Genetics Branch of the Division of Neuroscience. Prior to joining NIA in 2022, Dr. Ghaleh was a Health Program Specialist at NINDS, where she supported different neurotechnology dissemination efforts of the BRAIN Initiative.

Dr. Ghaleh received her B.A. in Translation Sciences from Payam Noor University, and her M.A. in Linguistics/Neurolinguistics from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in Iran. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where her work focused on cognitive decline and language comprehension abilities in aging. Following the completion of her doctoral work, Dr. Ghaleh moved to Georgetown University to obtain postdoctoral training in neuroimaging and neuromodulation. Her research at Georgetown University focused on investigating the neural correlates of language and other cognitive functions, and their impairments in stroke survivors, and post-stroke neural plasticity.
