What is the National Institute on Aging?
The NIA is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIA leads a broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life. The Institute supports and conducts genetic, biological, clinical, behavioral, social, and economic research related to the aging process, diseases and conditions associated with aging, and other special problems and needs of older people.
