Conscientiousness and Healthy Aging Teleconference

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

An exploratory teleconference on Conscientiousness and Healthy Aging was held to consider new directions in research on the links between personality and important aging outcomes. Discussion focused on three themes: (1) the next important research challenges in understanding links between conscientiousness and health, (2) extensions to biology and genetics and newer measurement approaches to facilitate such extensions, and (3) translational extensions, with an eye to interventions – are we in a position to consider this with respect to aging-relevant outcomes in the psychological and physical health domains. Background statements developed to frame the discussion are available (PDF, 564 KB). As a result of this teleconference, a future workshop on this topic area is being planned.
