CNS oversees volunteer community enhancement programs including: the National Senior Services Corps (a network of Federally-supported programs helping older people get involved in community service); the Foster Grandparent Program (encouraging older people to work with children with special needs); and the Senior Companion Program (volunteers assisting older people with special needs in hospitals, social service agencies, or home health care agencies).
