Status of FY 2012, 2013, and 2014 Budgets:

FY 2012

The NIA closed out fiscal year 2012.  In FY 2012, the NIA obligated $1,121,339,000 in appropriated money.  NIA awarded 1,377 research project grants (RPGs), including 314 competing awards.  The FY 2012 success rate for the Institute was 15.5 percent which compares to 16.1 percent in FY 2011 and 14.5 percent in FY 2010.

Support levels for other key extramural funding mechanisms included 79 research centers for $88.9 million; 610 full-time training positions for $24.8 million; and a total of $64.5 million for research and development contracts.

FY 2013

NIA is currently operating on a 6 month CR, which provides $313.3M for that period.   The FY 2013 President’s budget requested 1,102.7M for NIA.  NIA’s FY 2013 funding level is dependent on the outcome of the national financial negotiations.

FY 2014

Preliminary work on the budget for FY 2014 has begun.  After intermediate stages of review, the President’s budget request for FY 2014 will be presented to Congress in February 2013, at which time it will become available to the public.
